I am It
by Robert Drake
So I went on a trip
We drove there
And the road was bumpy
(isn’t it always?)
There were cliffs nearby
And I almost fell off
But if the cliff hadn’t been there
Would I still enjoy the trip?
Finally we arrived
And I learned true love
Not a human’s love.
A world’s love.
It was surreal
And I was happy.
Then we were gone.
I’ve never felt worse.
I sat in a stupor
No one had left me
No one had died.
But I felt a loss like no other
Then I realized there was no loss
The world was still here.
For I cannot leave it.
It is me and I am it.
